On the heels of being named in Observer’s Arts Power 50: The Changemakers Shaping the Art World in 2019, Nanne Dekking speaks to Sissi Cao about his career trajectory in the art world, the reception of Artory within the art world, the shifts in the art market, and how Artory is pushing impartiality and transparency.

On how Artory is strengthening trust in the marketplace, Nanne Dekking provides a simple analogy:

For instance, I don’t have to trust you if I buy your house; I can go to the public registry for houses to easily find everything. And that’s something that didn’t exist for art. There’s no regulation that requires one, either. So, what we are trying to do is to make sure that buyers get the best information that they can.

When it comes to giving new art collectors access to the same information as experienced collectors, in order to make more informed buying decisions, Nanne explains how Artory is working to change this:

The dealer community always looks at people who’ve already bought art, not people who should buy art. Artory could change that, too, because what if you don’t have to court a gallery owner and instead find everything you need in a public database?
